“Perhaps You Were Born for Such a Time as This.”
Mama, we see you. We hear you. We’re with you.
Obviously, none of us can say with absolute certainty what it was like to live through another moment in time. Sure, we can read about it in history books, and if we’re lucky, hear about it from those who came before us. But there’s no substitute for actually LIVING through history. And we’re living through some history, aren’t we?
Having only lived during this particular time, I can’t say what decisions other mothers before me faced. But I feel like us moms have certainly earned our stripes recently. I’ve had to make decisions that I never dreamed of when my children were just a dream to me. Have I second-guessed myself often? Absolutely. Just ask my husband and some of my closest friends (who are also earning their stripes as my faithful sounding boards).
I can’t tell you exactly how to be a mother to your children in this moment. I can’t tell you what’s right for your family, your career, your health, etc., or reassure you that what’s right for me and my children is also right for you and yours. But what I can tell you is this: “Perhaps you were born for such a time as this.” Esther 4:14. God didn’t make a mistake when He made you a mother to your children at this very moment in time. Sometimes, with the noise of social media and the 24/7 stream of “breaking news”, it’s difficult to just “be still” with God and hear His voice above the crowd. But please take the time to listen and remember that He chose you to mother your children NOW.
I hope this truth puts a smile on your face and restores any confidence you may have lost as you struggled to discern which way to go at the seemingly never-ending cycle of forks in the road over these past 18 months or so. Keep trusting God, keep seeking wise counsel, and keep believing in your ability to mother your children and be their safe haven in these uncertain times. You’ve got this, and we’re rooting for you!
